New Jersey? Smokestack cities, oil refineries, tract housing, crowded roads, right?
Well, yes, there is certainly no denying we have all of those. But many who see only that side of the state will be surprised to learn that New Jersey has much more. To the northwest are the Highlands, a land of sparkling lakes, small towns and dairy farms. Three major battles of the American Revolution were fought in the central part of the state. Southeastern New Jersey? Two words every Jerseyan knows. The Shore. Southwestern New Jersey, the state's tidewater region, is its most unspoiled area. And in the middle of South Jersey is the Pinelands, a near wilderness in the most densely-populated state in the Union.
Take a look inside at what the Garden State offers. The Attractions links will take you to thumbnail descriptions of and directions to places where you can learn, explore or just relax. Those passing through the state or visiting or Jerseyans unfamiliar with other areas of the state may find the Exit Lists link useful to plan trips to one or more sites. It's the ultimate answer to the quintessential New Jersey question, "What exit?".
Road geeks like me may be interested in the Photos link, which leads to displays of old highway signs and town welcoming signs (I find it interesting what towns choose to brag about).
