Region map

This is the area of the state most closely tied to Philadelphia. There are towns that date back to colonial days and have preserved their heritage well. Moving east there are more modern suburban developments and finally one reaches the western fringes of the Pinelands, although the former has been steadily encroaching on the latter. In an attempt to revive the city of Camden, the waterfront has been developed as a tourist attraction, anchored by the USS New Jersey, permanently berthed here, and the Adventure Aquarium. The Walt Whitman House and Rutgers' South Jersey campus are nearby. Burlington, Bordentown, Haddonfield and Moorestown, among others, have a strong historical presence, while one can also visit New Jersey's only Indian reservation near Mount Holly.

Most attractions are linked to their websites. Information given is as accurate as possible, but it is always advisable to check with the facility. The descriptions noted for each attraction are for information only and do not constitute an endorsement.
