Region map

For most people, this is New Jersey, eighteen-wheelers on the Turnpike, oil refineries, aging cities and housing developments. But there is much more to be found, the birthplace of a President, for example, or the workshop of America's most famous inventor or a large and multifaceted science center. Many small museums offer insight into local history. In the midst of the most densely populated part of the most densely populated state, you can find relief in the 2000-acre Watchung or South Mountain Reservation or the towering Palisades. Liberty State Park provides a back door to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Children may enjoy one of the area's two zoos.

Most attractions are linked to their websites. Information given is as accurate as possible, but it is always advisable to check with the facility. The descriptions noted for each attraction are for information only and do not constitute an endorsement.
