Region map

Down the Shore. A mantra for generations of children, teenagers and adults who look forward to adventures in the sand and surf. From honky-tonk Seaside Heights to pristine Island Beach to the cottages on Long Beach Island, then on to high-rolling Atlantic City and the most famous boardwalk in the world and continuing to the Wildwoods, with the widest beach in New Jersey, and Cape May, a treasure trove of Victoriana, the Jersey Shore offers a variety of spots to beat the heat. There are also numerous museums and historic sites in the area, as well as wildlife refuges and parks. But just a few miles inland lies another world. As the shore resorts give way to suburban development and they in turn to farmland, the traveler enters the Pinelands, a near-wilderness area in the middle of the most densely-populated state in the union. Here one can hike the 50-mile Batona (back to nature) trail, canoe down a winding stream in solitude or camp under the stars. Four state forests, one in primitive state, may be found here, with facilities for all three activities.

Most attractions are linked to their websites. Information given is as accurate as possible, but it is always advisable to check with the facility. The descriptions noted for each attraction are for information only and do not constitute an endorsement.
